I just noticed something similar, with Windows/XP and WriteLog,
yesterday, when I finally changed from LPT to COM keying
(still had RFI lockups with amplifier on and LPT keying).
At the boot up of the hardware with Windows/XP, the DTR is turned
on briefly, and it does key the radio if it's in CW mode and
connected, even though Write Log is not started.
But it was when I started Write Log for the first time to set up
a new contest and change the keying options from LPT to COM, that
WriteLog held DTR on and keyed the rig until after I had changed
its keying option from LPT to COM.
Now, when I start Write Log for a new contest, there is a short
DTR on, but it's no longer continuous during contest setup.
I used the K0BX circuit, but was unable to find the
4N32 PhotoDarlington OptoCoupler NTE3083, but found the
4N28 PhotoTransistor OptoCoupler NTE3084 works just fine.
I only had to scrape open 7 of the 9 DB9 wires to find out what
color code it's manufacture used (DTR-Orange,GND-Yellow, YMMV).
