I have a KAM XL, it is the latest Multimode TNC from Kantronics.
The KAM XL is picky about what Serial ports it works on.
Most Motherboard UART's are ok (Com1 and Com2)
The Belkin USB to Serial adapter F5U103 Works well and btw key's FSK also.
When The KAM XL is up and running on a known Good serial port, I can talk to
it with hyperterm and the Digital Communications package "Pacterm 98" (CSS)
works with KAM XL in all modes.
Here's the problem:
KAM XL is in Term or HOST mode (have tired both).
I start WriteLOG up and rtty window.
Set the rtty window to port KAM XL is on.
Set the TU type to KAM
WL then tries but never does communicate with the XL.
It gives the message Initializing Host Mode. Please Wait..
then it will give the error message
Rttyrite failed to put KAM in host mode. Please turn the KAM power off, then
back on.
OK Cancel
Now if I substitute a older KAM for the KAM XL it works fine. I've
duplicated the above with a Win95, 98se and WinXP OS PC with always the same
results.
I've exchanged e-mail with Ron(WL) and he indicated Kantronics would not
supply a KAM XL for testing with WriteLog.
I've tried to communicate with Kantronics but they do not respond.
I realize that MMTTY is a much better way to do rtty during the contests but
I found out during OCT CQ rtty test that it would be nice to have a backup
CPU/TNC/RIG when one of our PC's went up in smoke.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
