Well for a non CW type the first time I tried a CW contest in S&P mode four
years ago the cut numbers nearly caused me to turn the rig off and say never
again. I knew 5NN was slang for 599 but had no clue about T,A or some of the
other even odd cuts I heard.
I was confused because no one taught cut number when I learned CW 39 years ago
and there was nothing comparable in RTTY or SSB contesting. As always in life
when you expect something it is much easier to deal with than when you don't.

I use the T and N.
But when I get sleepy, I find using A for the FIRST digit makes me miss a
beat when copying.
But I see no problem with having it optional.
What do you guys think of this practice?
I send cut numbers if the other person sent me cut numbers.
If he sent me whole digits, I use whole digits.
