Comments:
Decided to try All-mode again to test the FT8 waters.
Last tried almost 4 years ago so time to see what I've missed.
I can now honestly say I don't miss the frustration of it.
While FT8 is great for chasing DX, it stinks for contesting.
But maybe only for me. Evidently I'm doing it all wrong.
Shame on me trying to use it to search and pounce on new mults
when they scroll by. I must have forgot the punishment you get
for doing that. Almost without fail, many auto CQ's go unanswered.
So I pounce on a new mult when I see one. Almost without fail,
I'm too late - the new mult ignores my call and works others.
Meanwhile, 2 or more stations answered my last CQ.
So i forget the new mult and go back to the other callers.
But I'm too late they all went away or onto working others.
In the meantime up to 10 minutes go by without a QSO.
This scenario repeats itself all weekend. Not my idea of fun.
Guess if I just let the software run without intervention,
it would be a lot less stressful. That being said,
it was nice to work EU, Azores. Caribbean, and west coast.
CU was still in off the back of my beam after 10 PM Sunday.
Not bashing FT8, Q65 at all, just not my cup of tea
to spend all weekend going back and forth between modes,
all while trying to keep the log straight.
Guess I'm getting too old and slow. Thanks for the QSOs.
