I was beginning to think you make have cancelled 222 night due to your recent
432 EME activity. I'm glad to see you are a multi-tasker.
I will be on from FM07 this evening, but later this week I will be going silent
on all but 50MHz VHF for a while. I've run out of money and the last of the
multitude of parts I need to modify my H frame and add X-pol to all of my dual
use antennas (weak signal & EME) arrived today. I'll be widening the H frame
to allow for optimum spacing of the stacked arrays for all 3 bands from each
other. Then there is the matter of cutting and installing the 164 additional
elements needed to add X-pol.
When I had this brilliant idea I thought I could do it cheaply. Man was I
wrong. It added up pretty quickly with 21 ft lengths of structural aluminum
for the H frame and boom to mast plates, 40 stainless steel u-bolts, many feet
of 1/4 & 3/16 inch element stock, 100 meters of low loss feedline for the added
polarization, 56 ferrite cores for 1:1 baluns, and nearly 50 N-connectors.
Hopefully my Big RAS Alfa Spid rotor and handle the extra weight and this will
improve my signals for both terrestrial & EME.

Subject: [222Activity] Tuesday on 222!
This is a bit late so I hope it gets read by all the 222 VHF phreaks and is a
late reminder that tonight is 222 Night. Get on tonight and try to make a
contact on the 222 MHz band. I did get a note from the 222 MHz Activity
Committee, and they have authorized a great prize to be awarded to a randomly
chosen participant in tonight's activities. All you have to do is make at least
one contact on 222, and you could be treated to a semi expenses paid vacation
on the 4th of July to a cute little Bed and Breakfast place in Linden, New
Jersey right next to the Rahway River and the SUNOCO Barge Docks. Enjoy water
skiing on the Rahway and a clam bake amid the metal tanks of the refinery
while you watch the fireworks arching over the Pulaskie Skyway. I have
included a photo of your accommodations, and I can just imagine the excitement
as everyone is now testing out their 222 gear in hopes of completing just one
contact to be eligible in the prize drawing. You are only reponsible for gettin
g to the mouth of the Rahway River. The Committee will supply all the rest for
the fabulous 4th celebrations in store for the lucky winner.
The activity on 222 starts after dinner around 22:45 UT or so on the East coast
and goes up past 0100 UT and later in the middle of the country. Last week was
quite active, but with some bad storms in the Midwest. This time aroind, there
isa bit of storminess in Eastern Iowa, but most areas are clear and it is
beautiful here in the Northeast. So please get on and make some noise. Last
week I easily worked K9MRI via meteors in about 15 minutes. It was a fun sked
and I will be looking fir more skeds this evening. After about 00:30 UT things
locally slow down and I always try some long haul sked to check conditions.
There was a romor of some tropo in the midwest this AM. Please check the
ON4KST chat page to see what other 222 ops are doing. I hope to see many
stations on the band this evening.
