Well, conditions were the complete opposite of last night! It rained
most of the day, finally stopping about an hour before the start of the
Sprint. The wind picked up out of the northwest and was blowing the
antennas around pretty good, stirring up power line noise and keeping
the troposphere well stirred. QSB was incredibly deep and fast.
My 25 watts managed 8 QSOs is a little over an hour:
K1WHS FN43 SSB
KV1J FN44 CW
K1DY FN54 SSB
K1TEO FN31 CW
N1JEZ FN44 CW
WZ1V FN31 FT8
KA1W FN31 FT8
K1KG FN42 FT8
Ron, WZ1V was 599+ on CW working K1DY but a minute later when we tried I
heard him one time as he was slipping into the noise. We kept trying for
several minutes on CW but signals never came up again. I later caught
Ron on FT8.
I heard more distant stations such as N2NT and KB2KIR but was not able
to work them in the QSB. At peak they were both well out of the noise
and would have been easy copy on any mode.
I seem to hear pretty well on 432 with the K1FO-40 at 110 feet and tower
mounted preamp. This band should be fun when I get the big amplifier
going, even at the initial 300 watt level.
Thanks to the sponsor and to everyone who got on tonight.
I found the missing element from my snapped in half 2 meter yagi while
doing spring yard work. I had looked around several times and had not
seen it, but while hauling off leaves I hit something with the
wheelbarrow. Yup, it was the missing element, sticking out of the ground
about 50 feet from the tower! How had I not seen that?
