Comments:

Murphy visited here the past couple of weeks: winds blew a key VHF antenna out
of position (but I found a cold, but wind free day to climb and fix it). Then
snow fell followed by sleet and then freezing rain that iced up the antennas
(but later in the week there was bright sunshine that made them shed their ice).
The VHF station tested OK a few days before the contest, but then the 432
station failed at the contest start (and stayed failed). The K3 was still
acting up; it’s time to dig into that.

The Jan VHF had been a longtime favorite of mine. But Its change to allow
contacts to be arranged real time via chat rooms or texts or a phone call took
away a good part of its past appeal. Even though there is no longer an official
unassisted entry class, that’s what I did for the enjoyment of personally
finding and working stations and new multipliers, and that made the family,
friends, and other activities not a stress. I operated 5 fun hours on the air.

Thankfully there was no E-skip since that would have changed this into a 6M HF
contest. Other terrestrial propagation modes seemed good. A few times though,
local stations were weak and hard to work. Odd…

222 MHz was a wasteland; 99+% of my omnidirectional CQs went unanswered but I
could easily work all other’s when I heard them.

Tnx for the Q’s!

73,
Chet, N8RA
