I have refused to let go of my FT-736 for good reason - no hidden menus,
ease of use, and I don't get that initial "blip" of full output into my
AM-6155 amp like some modern rigs do. Does the radio take lots of room on
the bench? Yes, but I have a dedicated spot for all my gear. After being a
ham since '92 I have quite the collection of electronics! You can probably
get the '736 off eBay for $500 to $700, and the 220 module is probably
another $350.
I also have the 1.2GHz module for the '736 - who is going to start another
night of the week for that band? 😉
