Hi Everyone...It ought to be as close to the Quadrantids as possible. The Quads normally peak somewhere in Jan 3-5. That shower is a very short one, so if it could fall in the contest that would be great. Clearly, it could not fall there every time, but when that would be possible, the Jan contest would be a lot better.
I know, I know, this is not the way that we have always done it, but
kowtowing to the NFL is not working.

The date for the January VHF contest is shown as "will generally be the third or
fourth weekend in January"

The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) is the national association for amateur
radio, connecting hams around the U.S. with news, information and resources.

I'm just curious is there a historical reason why there is not a fixed date for
this contest ? I expect I'll be asked this question at a presentation I am
giving regarding contesting. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
