I own a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel. I have never really tried to actually charge the radio battery, from the vehicle electrical system. All I have done is trickle charge the radio battery, from the vehicle, between grids. I have it setup for about five amps max. charge rate. Just to "pour a few amps back into the can" between stops.
