Dave,
Garmin makes a series of Android-based hand-held GPSs. A friend of mind
has the Garmin Monterra that he uses for hiking (as well as driving, as there
are car and bicycle mounts available). What this means is that you can add
(almost) any Android app to your Garmin GPS.
Hence, you can add one of the many apps that display maidenhead grids (like
"GPS Test+" or "GPS Status"). The down side: the units are pricy.
