Actually, George, for a "little pistol" in rural Nevada, VHF *is* harder.
Being a NV mult was generally worth 10db and, with 100 watts, we could, on
occasion, hold a run frequency in HF contests. A comparable setup on VHF
doesn't guarantee you can even *be heard* much less work anyone.
