The last time I remember this topic coming up was a few years ago. Funny how
some of the topics cycle :-)
At the time, several folks suggested that adding another "long propagation"
band would hurt the activity on the higher VHF/UHF bands. Kind of hard to
argue that point. I know it is real obvious when 6 opens, 2 and above activity
dies.
I hate to put forth an argument against adding 10 meters, as it is one of my
favorite bands. It would be a pain to add much antenna to the rover for 10,
but I believe I would still give it a good shot if it was available. I would
probably have to just go with a vertical whip at the top of the mast...
Another change I would like to see, which is probably even less likely to
happen, is adding 4 meters (70 Mhz) for North America VHF ops. I've never had
the opportunity to try 4 meters, but would love to give it a shot. Guess I may
have to take a trip to Europe:-)
