No, this is NOT my position, Kenneth. My position is ... ready for this (?)...

We should occupy spectrum through radiosport for the sake of sport AND the rules
for the sport should NEVER discourage me from running as many bands as one can
muster.

The Limited MultiOp category (as it is defined today) does us a dis-service.

Ask me about either. I'll send a URL and you can join the fun, too!

Personally I feel that the the limited multi-op class is great. We all know how expensive it is, even with pooled resources, to get so many bands. Speaking as a relatively young ham with a family that I have to provide for and having to work 6 months between weekends off, I have to take vacation time off just to be involved in a contest. I think we all know that in order to be a competitive group it takes a whole lot of money! When I think of the major VHF/UHF'ers that I know, I think of people that are more well off than the average ham. It takes so much more equipment, more expensive equipment, expensive feedline, expensive antennas for each band, etc to be a big station. I feel like HF contesting is 75% operating effort with 25% equipment. I feel like VHF/UHF contesting is 75% equipment and 25% operating effort. There is no doubt that you can put an excellent operator at a pretty poor hf station and he can still make lots of contacts and even be a little competitive, however you put that same operator at a poor vhf staion and he can not even come close to competing with a big vhf station. VHF/UHF contesting is almost always going to be dominated by the hams that have lots of money or by larger clubs that have lots of resources. That is just the way it is. I am not complaining about it. One reason why I like the idea of a limited multi-op class is that is gives the smaller clubs/groups a chance at being competitive within their class without spending every dime they have on heliax and transverters for all the other bands that they can't afford to get on, plus there is such a small amount of people to talk to on the higher bands in the more rural areas, it is not worth the expense. Around here you are lucky to hear 5 stations a day between 6M and 2M ssb. If everyone is so concerned about occupying the bands then there needs to be more activity daily, not just 4-5 times per year and only during a contest. I know personally that I like the QRP portable class or just a portable low power and highpower class in general. I may not have an elaborate setup, but I can do ok from a mountain top. With VHF/UHF weak signal stuff being so costly to get into in the 1st place and you just don't see a whole lot of decent vhf/uhf equipment on the used market suitable for weak signal work, it make it cost prohibitive. Again the VHF/UHF bigger guns that I know are not hurting for money and they have accumulated their gear over 20-30 years. Now if we could only petition more companies to make more equipment at a reasonalble price for 222, 900, 1296, and more companys to make less expensive heliax, we would be doing super.

For Sale

I acquired a few Lamda-EMI power supplies recently. They are being offered
on a first come first serve basis.

These power supplies are SCR input regulated with good RFI filtering. I
have tried a couple with my IC-746 and have found no interference. You can
see the specs at http://www.lambda-emi.com/product_html/tcrpower.htm.

Here's the list:

Quantity Type Volts Amps In V Panel
1 TCR 0-40 45 120 5 1/4
4 TCR 0-10 165 120 5 1/4
1 TCR 0-20 90 120 5 1/4
6 TCR 0-20 30 120 3 1/2
2 TCR 0-10 75 120 3 1/2
1 HCR 0-40 8 120 5 1/4
1 HCR 0-80 3 120 5 1/4
3 pair HCR 0-25 15 120 5 1/4

All units are rack mount. The HCR units are two power supplies on a single
rack. These units were used in a semiconductor burn-in system. Due to the
weight, I will not ship them so you must plan on picking them up at my QTH
just north of Manchester NH. Similar units are selling on EBay for as much
as $350.00 - yours for only $150 each or $150 for HCR pair. I have a copy
of the TCR manual complements of Lambda but the HCR manuals are not available.
