There are some administrative matters I would like to bring to the group.
Quite a few of you are posting without joining the reflector. To keep out
spam this reflector will not accept non-member posts. The list
administrator has to approve each non-member post individually for it to
appear on the list. In the last two days we have had about 30 posts and
about 1/3 of those were bounced by the robot before I approved them.
So if you are interested in posting to this reflector, please subscribe to
the list. To reduce the bandwidth on your Email, when you subscribe you can
choose to receive the posts as a digest that will add only one Email per day
to your inbox.
It is not completely obvious how to subscribe so I will provide the
instructions here.
Go to the www.contesting.com home page.
Scroll down and find the Contest List Archives on the left side of the page.
Click on VHF Contesting.
At the top of the page that comes up, click on more information
about this list
Scroll down the page to Subscribing to VHFcontesting
Fill out the boxes to join the reflector. Hit SUBSCRIBE button.
Remember -- put in the E-mail address from the ISP you are going to send the
message from. Do not use an alternate address unless YOU ARE GOING TO SEND
YOUR POSTS FROM THAT ADDRESS. Do not use remailers like @arrl.org - they
are never the mailer of origin. The robot looks for your real address from
which you sent the message and otherwise will bounce your messages..
You can use your real address. No one is going to sell it to a spammer. I
know the owner of the robot. He hates spammers!
That said, some members have had their posts bounce. Make sure that you are
sending mail from the ISP you put in the subscribing information. Otherwise
subscribe again. The one glich I have is mail from people using large UNIX
systems with multiple servers that sometimes use aliases for their return
addresses. I am going to check to see what I can do about this [probably
nothing]. I will post those folks manually when the robot bounces them.
Finally I will be leaving for Spruce Knob, WV for the VHF contest around
Wednesday (tomorrow) noon and will not return until late on Monday. During
that time it will take considerably longer for messages that bounce to get
approved and posted - there is no commercial electricity within 10 miles of
where I am going and no internet at all. So if you are not a member or are
posting from an alternate ISP your message may not make it.
See you all from K8GP
