As an example of learning -- look at the first antenna on VK4YB's qrz page. It's a brilliant design that isn't obvious -- when neighbor W6GJB pointed me to it as one he wanted to build. I modeled it in NEC, looked at the currents, and realized that what he had done was build something that fit on his property that put a current maxima in the vertical section at the middle of the antenna and without putting current maxima where it could couple to lossy earth, which was what made the antenna work. The rest was phasing and end loading.

Once I had understood the design, to fit it on Glen's real estate, I simply split the long end loading into three parallel branches. He built it, rigging the high parts from his redwoods, and had great success with the antenna, working VK4YB, and many others.
