That is ONE reason that I started towertalk@groups.io.

This is one of the two PP plates I made. One PP rotates a conventional mast
on a tall R45, the other rotates a 105' rotating tower. In both cases, all
axial force is resisted by a tower bearing; this plate only has to deal
with torque.

Tom,
I have two PP in service, both on Rohn 45. For both, I fabricated a custom
rotator plate from 1/2" aluminum plate and pressed in a new seal that fits
the OD of the PP output shaft. I used a Chicago Rawhide (don't know what
their new name is) CR 33458 seal. Both PP are still working (for over 20
years), so I haven't had the opportunity to look inside to see if there has
been any water ingress. Also, both PP have a water shield mounted on the
mast above, fabricated out of PVC plumbing pipe stuff.

In the case of a prop pitch rotor mounted underneath a rotor shelf in a
tower, does anybody here have experience regarding the effectiveness of
the
rubber seal included in the
prop pitch ? Does it do a good job of keeping out water, or is it
problematic? The environment I am going to use one in is western Oregon,
where it rains for 4 months almost non-stop, with wind as well.
Any input appreciated.
