Bill
you described the same issue I have on my 30/40 antenna. A new home run
mine from house to tower did not fix it.
As for drying it out and cleaning it up I recommend DeOxit. Was tureen on to
this product by and head airline Tec.
YMMV

Subject: [TowerTalk] Yaesu 2800 issue
I have 5 Yaesu 2800s and have an issue with one at 80 feet. All others
operate normally. The one at 80 feet has indicator issues. Shows wrong
direction of rotation sometimes (CCW vs CW), slow to no rotation at
times...generally flakey. I have runs to the rotor cable from the shack out to
the box under the tower and have terminal strips which allow me to switch out
the cable and boxes. So basically UI ran a different box and cable to the
tower and then to the rotor in question. No change. So I know the issue is
from the box at the base to the rotor.
I know water incursion is an issue with the 2800s, so when I installed the
rotors last year I used a high quality caulk on the plugs. However, my guess
is I've got water seepage into the connector.
Any thoughts on this and the best way to "dry it out" ? I know I have to
remove the cable connector to do it, but any suggestions for solving the rotor
issue would be appreciated.
