All hams or just those who are active in some way? Active hams or active
hams who are on HF?
I can't speak for numbers elsewhere but in this area more than 50% of those who are on the air at all are only on 2 meter FM and the digi-voice modes plus Echolink and its counterparts. No interest in HF. I doubt the numbers regarding EFHW specifically, but...Of thsoe who are on HF, more than half seem to be happy with simple wire antennas and have no interest in having or learning about anything else. Look around. Do some research. I suspect numbers are similar in most parts of the U.S. Paul N1BUG On 4/26/22 14:44, Edward Mccann via TowerTalk wrote: This was recently posted on the internet by one of hamdom’s self appointed experts: “The Joe Hams of this world . . . where currently 60% of them seem to be quite happy with an EFHW antenna, 30% with an EFRW (Random Wire) antenna, and 10% understand antenna technology.” Is this anywhere near accurate? Could it possibly be so? Are 60% of the 779,545 US hams (467,727) and 60% of the 3.345 million World-wide hams (2 million) really “happy with” or “using” an EFHW? Or another 30% (233,863 in the US and 1 million World-wide ) “happy with” or “using” an end-fed random wire? That leaves only 334,569 who understand antenna technology! Even with a ballot with room for write-in candidates!! I must have missed the survey, and certainly wouldn’t have answered “yes” to the “are you happy with an end-fed half wave or random wire.” Comments?
