It sounds like you're climbing it like a ladder. Rather than climbing it
like a ladder, an alternative could be to only put one foot in one
vertical face and the other foot in an adjacent vertical face.
Essentially you "straddle" the vertical tube at the corner of the
triangle. Then both feet can be at the same level without sharing a
single horizontal brace.
Then your shoes can be 10 inches wide :-)

Tennis shoes for tower climbing are good for about 10 minutes and that's about it. I've used real mountain climbing boots for all my tower activities and have worn out a couple of pairs over the
years. //////// Yes, 25G is a PITA but my big climbing boots will work FB. The trick is to put your right foot on the horizontal and then the left one. It's a tight fit but really no
problem. //////// > The thought occurred to me that some simple metal plates could be strappedto the bottoms of my tennis shoes, kind of like the old metal skates I hadin the early 70's, for

Umm, no. Others have mentioned various boots and any of them with a steel or fiberglass shank will work just fine. ////// Cheers & safe climbing,Steve K7LXCTOWER TECH
