Besides the 2 ft vs 10 foot A/B tests, I did some BOG tests.
The signal out is quite low, but they did work OK and I think
would be valuable in case I had to run a "stealth" beverage.
I have 20 acres so I fortunately don't need to resort to that.
I used 2 ft mainly just to keep them out of the weeds.
BTW, my soil is highly conductive (15 to 30 mS).

I could certainly believe that to be the case. If your ground
conditions are such that the effective reference is not near the
surface, lower is probably better since a Beverage high off the ground
is just an end fed long wire. As Jim and others have pointed out, a
true Beverage needs reasonable proximity to lossy soil to work properly.
My soil here on this rocky southern Arizona hillside is normally bone
dry, and I suspect (can't prove it though) that my BOG works as well as
if I had it higher off the ground. I've adjusted the terminating
resistor until I got a constant feed impedance versus frequency (i.e., a
flat line) and it's roughly 400 ohms ... not much different than the
generally accepted value for a standard beverage.

The trouble with this question (a FAQ!) is that many
ops have only tried 10 feet because they are constrained
by deer. They might report "it works great", but they
have not compared it to, say 2 feet, so such data is
of limited value. On the other hand, I actually set
up two parallel beverages 50 feet apart with a remote
switching relay, and did A/B tests. At my QTH at least,
2 feet worked better than 10 feet consistently. "YMMV", hi.
BTW, we don't have deer here.

Wondering if anyone has had good success with a Beverage mounted 12'
above ground? 12' is the minimum clearance I need to safely clear a
drive way. Please reply direct as I hope to install tomorrow.
