Thanks for all the comments so far. The rotor is turning the antennas
today. No wind. So it could be that the mast is slipping. If the worm
gear was broke I don't think it would turn. I won't know more until I
can get someone up the tower.
The model is probably their smallest. I don't think they had the RaK
when bought these.

Mike,
Another rotor to consider is DX Engineering's TR-4500HD. It looks
similar to an M2 Orion. One of the neat features is the ability to
easily change out the pulse counter switch without having to remove
the rotor from service. The only issue is it's still not available
and has no field use that I'm aware of. Maybe W5OV or K3LR can chime
in here.
While I've never had to change out the pulse counter on my Orion, I
did have to replace the counter in my prop pitch due to a lighting
strike. Luckily the prop pitch is at ground level as it turns a
rotating tower. I'm not sure why the Orion was not damaged during the
same lightning event as I think that particular tower is the one that
took the hit.
I use an M2 Orion with an upgraded mast clamp from Champion Radio. It
turns a F12 C31xr and a F12 Delta 230/240. We get high winds here on
a regular basis and so far, knock on wood, I have had no issues.
I did have an issue with the original M2 mast clamp as it would allow
the mast to slip so I replace it with the Champion mast clamp. I was
hesitant though as I always thought the slipping mast was a good
'fuse' to protect the rotor. It got to the point it was slipping on a
regular basis so I took the plunge and replaced it. So far so good.

It appears that my Alpha Spid cut loose in some heave wind recently.
I am looking to upgrade to something else. I am turning a 4 ele
SteppIR with the 30/40 loop and a 2 ele Cushcraft 40.
The Yaesu 2800 and Orion 2800 have been suggested. I heard that you
have to be careful with the Yaesu and the mounting bracket as you can
break it. I have a Green Heron Controller.
It has also been suggested to get the NV or LXC mounting brackets for
the Orion.
Any other thoughts?
