You really don't want to do that without bracing the mast with something like the braces Tim suggested. Years ago, I made something similar out of steel angle stock and U-bolts.

BTW, although the DXE page shows two braces in one photo, it appears they are sold individually. While one might prevent rotation, at least two would be required to prevent the mast from tilting and stressing the thrust bearing, unless you stabilize the mast with ropes, or something else. I suppose, if there's only one beam on the mast, you could slide it down to right on top of the thrust bearing before removing the rotator.
