It is the combination of three preforms at the guy point and the tower face.
The problem is worse as you go higher in frequency (20, 15 and 10 meters).

K3LR uses two Moxon's and three full size four element OWA's for 40 meters.

I was not originally realizing this preform discussion was talking about
Phillystran.    So are we saying that the 4 ft long preform, attached to the
tower, is actually affecting the 40M yagi as it turns?  The dimensions make
that really surprising.  How do you know something else isn't affecting the
SWR as you turn it.  You would have to have a single 40M yagi on the tower
to know that wouldn't you?

 

Also, I believe K3LR uses Moxons?  And isn't that design more susceptible to
adjacent loading of elements than a yagi element?
