I agree. I was thinking more about the concept of using a solid rod for
the anchor instead of the wire rope.
There are smaller models of arrow anchors that possibly could be driven
into the ground with a small jack hammer
or hammer drill. I think the concept itself is great!

The next size down is what I've been looking at, called Duckbill
Anchors 3000 lb working load, 7700 lb breaking load. To be sure, not
so fierce as the Manta Ray anchors, but don't require construction
equipment to put them in.

Great anchor for sure Bert. I have been looking at this for my
planned 160m
elevated vertical (Rohn 25G) installation. Too bad the hydraulic anchor
locker is several thousand dollars.....
I wonder if anyone on this reflector has used these before?

This is probably the best earth anchor system I've seen.

If you're a little handy with metal working you can make it yourself.

Pete;
Take a look at American Earth Anchors (americanearthanchors.com).
I used their Penatrator model 46inch guy version on 100 ft of 45G a few
years ago.
Only real spec is to be used in un-disturbed soil . I installed the
tower
on an acre of
farm land that had never been filled or mucked with in 100 yrs.
These are
aluminum and wont rust in
most soil . I installed them by hand due to being unable to locate the
electric tool they recommended
in my rural area. Rocks are no issue for this version I can assure you.
W8JI has some good info and lot's of warnings.

After spending a frustrating afternoon trying (and failing) to drive a
single helical guy anchor for my AB-577 tower, I'm looking for a
better
solution. I'm trying very hard to avoid excavation, concrete,
etc.because
I
will need to restore the site to pristine condition in a few years. I
came
across a product called a duckbill anchor that claims 3000 lb working
load
in normal soil, and can be driven with a sledge or an electric
jackhammer,
leaving a cable end that is then pulledon to "flip" the anchor into
its
final position.
Anyone ever used these with a tower, AB-577 or otherwise? Any
reason not
to give them a try?
