Then just switch matching stubs at the bottom of the tower. It is only a
few tenths of a dB lower in gain than an optimized 2 el Ref - DE
arrangement. You can do all the tuning, switching at the feed point

bi-directional. From W1, that means it's a USA and EU antenna all at the
same time.
basically a W8JK? forms a beam in both front and back directions? (and
can be quite narrow beam, if the two elements are "close")
