>>Does anybody have an opinion about using brake fluid ?
You were smart to use DOT 5, being polysiloxane based it absorbs very
little moisture.
Most common DOT 3 and 4 brake fluids are polyethelyene glycol and absorb
moisture. Repeated thermal cycling will draw air in and out of the can,
and potentially allowing enough airborne moisture to accumulate in the
can and sink to the bottom, causing corrosion. This is the reason for
most corrosion in brake calipers and wheel cylinders, and is most likely
the source of the pinhole leak at the bottom of these types of dummy
loads as well.
