Matthew, Keith, and others,
I am retired, and like many I am on a very restricted budget for hobbies. In
spite of this I have made multiple purchases from DXE because of the quality of
product and service I have received. I made the comment here only as a
counterpoise to the unanimous praise seen. Perhaps my words might have been
chosen more carefully.
My stated intent to do no further business was because the response was rude
and abrupt. This was not an incorrect item shipped, or an unsuitable item that
slipped through quality control.
I called, described my problem and asked for confirmation that I had ordered
the correct connector, and if so, what might I be doing wrong. I was not loud,
or accusing, or even indignant. I was met with an attitude summed up as “How
would I know what you are doing wrong, and what do you expect us to do about
it.?” I was shocked, said only “WOW” and hung up. At no time was I loud or
accusing. I don’t think my nose was “out of joint” or that I needed “a strong
cathartic” (wow - publicly suggesting that I am full of crap)
Anyone can have a bad day, and I seem to have found this gentleman’ nadir. That
would be July 9th, early afternoon PDT.
I had purchased several DXE 6’ RG8X jumpers and 10 Amphenol Connex 182115-10
connectors, with the intent of cutting the pre-made jumpers and terminating to
make multiple short jumpers.Yes, I am that cheap. I discovered that the
stranded center conductor would not pass into the crimp area of the connector,
and if it appeared that they had done so, some strands would be held back and
would short to the body of the connector.
The specs from Amphenol say the hole is .063, and RG8X should have a center
conductor of .056-.058. I have no way to measure the diameter of the stranded
conductor or the tiny hole for the crimp to ascertain the nature of the problem.
I have been contacted by Mr. Duffy, who has promised to investigate the
specific physical problem and resolve it. Sorry for the drama here.
