The A.B. Chance literature actually recommends using multiple helices on the same shaft, spaced at roughly 3-4 times the helix diameter.

In soft soil, too, they have *very* long shafts (a lot longer than 8 feet).

I'm pretty sure this is not something you're going to install by hand: it's going to take a machine to twist those things in to 15-20 feet deep.
