I machined an aluminum thick wall tube (Holobar) for connecting
irrigation pipes together and threaded SS eyebolts into it. Without a
lathe here are some alternatives -
Use a hole saw to cut 3/16" thick or so aluminum plate for an id to fit
a tube at a step. The "od" can be square. Drill holes large enough for
thimbles to protect the rope.
Use stainless split shaft collars and thread them for stainless eyebolts
and jam nut plus Loctite them in. Collars are available in 1/16" id
steps up to 3" id, should be secure anywhere on a right sized tube or
certainly secure at a step of diameters.
