No way to install the underground part in conduit?
I've given up on trying to keep critters, people, water etc. out of
underground cable. We just put it all in conduit these days. It's not that
expensive and allows a LOT of flexibility.
Also, I've noticed that silicone will tend to corrode the inside of a
connector when it's used. I used to goop up clearance challenged connectors
with silicone then put heat shrink over the top of that. Those didn't last
long. Sure seemed like a good idea at the time though!
Perhaps the HAM bands are just that much less sensitive to water etc. than
the 2400MHz and up gear that I always use. I'm always amazed at how the
cable TV, two way radio and even some HAM installs that I run into don't
have any weather proofing at all. Perhaps its because we're sooooo dry out
here (9" or so or rain per year).

Thanks for all the ideas....
Im going with Male N connectors on the ends that go to the tower and the
shack....Female N connectors on the splice jumper. Also lots of tape wrap
since its going back underground.
Thanks...Rich

For a splice I'd install a male connector on one piece and a female on the
other. You get them them in most types such as N, UHF, and I believe 7-16.
IOW two connectors instead of three which with hard line can save a few
dollars.
That is the route I've taken with LMR-600.
Just remember that most RTV is not moisture proof. Water proof? Yes, but not
moisture proof. Even the stuff theuse to make aquariums is not moisture
proof.
