Thank you. I will do some studying on the subject. Time to dig out my QST as
well.

Very timely question. See the latest issue of QST for information on how to
protect your anchors.
There is also a lot of information on the Internet on how to protect anchors.
Here are some sites to look at:
http://www.brancekrachy.com/
http://www.williance.com/
http://www.anchorguard.com/
Interestingly enough, I will be adding cathodic protection to my 145 foot
Rohn 45 tower this weekend even though after 9 years, there is no evidence of
anchor corrosion (primarily because my guys are insulated and not grounded at
the anchor points).

Subject: [TowerTalk] Protecting Buried Guy Anchors
I have installed the standard Rohn GAC303 guys anchors into buried concrete
per the Rohn drawings.
I was talking to a tower installer who says that he has seen theses buried
guy anchors eaten away in only a few years.
Thinking about this I imagine that if the ground was acidic it would eat the
galvanizing zinc of the steel rod very quikly and then the steel below would
not last very long. Would it be a good idea to protect against this by
applying lime at regualr intervals around the guy anchor to increase the
soil ph?
I think that I am OK since I have pulled 8 foot copper ground rods that have
been in the ground here for several years and they came out shiny and
bright.
