I would not consider LMR-400 as a suitable cable for a crank-up.
Although it'll make bends tighter than almost any other RG-8 sized cable
at 1.5" radius (IIRC), the stuff is stiff. It's great coax, just not
very flexible. The UF or Ultra Flex versions are very flexible in
addition to making relatively short "repeatable" bends, but the UF
version is not known for long life although it'd probably outlast most
of us.
Probably the best, flexible, low loss, RG-8 size coax is Davis BuryFlex
(TM). It has a very tough PVC jacket that is quite slippery which should
make it ideal for crank ups. It's also easy to install connectors on. I
use all crimp UHF and N types which are quick to install and stand up
well. Unfortunately most places were out of it last week, but Steve will
probably let us know when more is coming in. I think the last thought
was around the end of the month. Which means it's time for me to get
another order in.
