You've hit the nail on the head with all your emails. I have followed many
(and more) of the same practices at several radio stations and except for a
direct strike to the FM antenna one day (actually that was before I was hired)
-- no problems and or damage from lighting strikes.

The proper solution for this is BONDING the grounds at the telephone block
and cable tv entrance and your shack to the power system ground with short
fat copper. If you don't bond those grounds together, the surge suppressors
are more likely to CAUSE damage rather than prevent it.
