Tape them over with something like Scotch 88.

The boots should not crack in one year, even if they are exposed to the sun.
If your Steppir is only one year old telephone Steppir and they will replace
them FOC. Maybe you bought the antenna used and it is fairly old and has
the short Mission boots? Anyway call Steppir and they will replace FOC.,

I had the crappy early type boots that Steppir used for a few moths here in
the California Sun for three years before even they cracked and failed.

The Fernco boots used for the last few years have no problem. I have the
same Fernco Boots out in the sun for the last 16 years on my pool equipment
with no cracks.

Hi Guys,

I am wondering if anything can be done to increase the life of the SteppIR
rubber boots that hold the element to the boom? Is there a coating they
can be sprayed with? Here in Florida, mine have significant cracks after
one year.

One consideration is your tower type. I have a crank-down, fold-over
tower
with a SteppIR on it. I have had no serious problems with the antenna
(after about 3 years), but I have needed to rewrap the tape coverings on
the element transitions, etc. Since I can lower it to almost ground level
(and work from a small step ladder), this is not a big deal. If I did not
have a crank-down, fold-over tower, I might be a little less happy with the
SteppIR. No problems with the motors or controller. Unless you are almost
constantly changing bands, the time to change bands is not significant. I
have the 30/40 meter "trombone element". Going from 20m to 40m does take
long enough that I notice it, but it is not an inhibitor.
