One consideration is your tower type. I have a crank-down, fold-over tower
with a SteppIR on it. I have had no serious problems with the antenna
(after about 3 years), but I have needed to rewrap the tape coverings on
the element transitions, etc. Since I can lower it to almost ground level
(and work from a small step ladder), this is not a big deal. If I did not
have a crank-down, fold-over tower, I might be a little less happy with the
SteppIR. No problems with the motors or controller. Unless you are almost
constantly changing bands, the time to change bands is not significant. I
have the 30/40 meter "trombone element". Going from 20m to 40m does take
long enough that I notice it, but it is not an inhibitor.
