W3GM ROUTINELY tilted over all of his 100' 25g towers, using the
falling derrick method.
The towers are guyed 4-way, instead of three, and the back guys go to
40' of 25g which serve as a ginpole. There is a deadman (read that
guy anchor on steroids) at the end of the ginpole, to which GM fastened
a cable and winch system, for lowering the tower.
He used a 1/2" electric drill as the motive power for laying the tower over.
and it was geared such that it took a good 10-15 minutes to get it up or down.
The sight of Gerry, at 80 years, singlehandedly laying over a 100' tower, plus
20' of mast and a full sized 3 element 40m beam.... because he wanted to move
it to SSB for the next contest.... priceless.
Tony, N2TK, another FRC'er, essentially copied Gerry's design, implementing it
in 45g. He can probably give you some construction details.
Jim, N2EA
