It's not like it's the most expensive piece of equipment you have for your
hobby.
When in doubt, just buy a new one. I probably have a half dozen laying
around in my shed here
collect over the years..

Then again, just put the smoke back in that one.

Well, if it reads open or shorted then its probably bad.  If the blue smoke
came out its probably bad also.  If you punched a hole in the insulation or
partially melted it down so that it is weakened but not dead then who knows
unless you tear it apart.
