If I'm really concerned with how square it is, I use a miter box and a
hack saw.  The miter box comes from Home Depot or Lowes and is really
cheap (<$15).  You will have a lip left behind that can be dealt with by
using a machinists burr remover.  This is a little carbide cutter
mounted in a swivel handle and is available at most welding supply
stores for a couple bucks.

I will check the hardware store just in case they have something not
listed
at their website.
I better get something which covers up to 2" in diameter, because most
of
pipe cutters work only with pipes up to 1"1/8 in size.
