I have the Prosistel PST61, one of the first ones, up now for I think about
4 years at least. Bought it from Jay at Dayton. It is turning a F12 Mag340N
three EL 40, a F12 C31XR and a F12 68' 180 dipole..using a 172# 3/8 wall
chrome molly 24' mast. Mounted 8' down in Rohn 55 on a custom metalworks
heavy rotor plate. It has worked flawlessly...knock on wood. Has the digital
box, slows to stop etc. Works well. I assume since it is one of the first
ones that it now corresponds to the higher spec rated HD model. If I had it
to do again I would choose it hands down.

I would also at least look at K7NV's converted prop pitches. I don't know
how the prices compare, but I saw the rotators at Dayton this year. They
were very impressive, and Kurt is a good guy who will give you excellent
support.

It really is fairly amazing what current can be handled by a relatively
small pin, as compared to the huge Cinch-Jones things. I use ordinary DIN
plugs for some of my control cable disconnects. The contacts are rated for
1 amp at 100 volts, or thereabouts. My C-J plugs require fairly constant
attention with CAIG anti-oxidation stuff, or they get flakey in places like
rotator pot connections - low voltage low current.

Howdy --

I don't know if it's been mentioned before but I was at the SteppIR
factory yesterday and saw an engineering drawing and photos of the K9LTN
array.
It's a 270' rotating tower with an "H" frame on it with 4 over 4 over 3
element SteppIRs on EACH side of the H. The antennas have azimuth AND
elevation
rotation. I heard that he was able to bounce HF signals off the moon ala
W0UN.
It is a truly amazing installation. Apparently they used Rohn 55 and 45 for

the vertical parts of the H. The vertical parts of the H are 100 feet! It
has
over 21 dBi of freespace gain.

    I went to the website - _www.k9ltn.com/_ (http://www.k9ltn.com/) - to
look at the photos and they're poorly edited and don't show any finished
shots
that I could see.

I think that this is probably the most expensive single tower
installation in the country. Everything except the antennas was custom
designed and
built and professionally installed. I'd estimate that its cost was over
$100k.

If anyone has pictures of the finished array, please let us know where
they can be viewed.

You've got to admire someone with that kind of vision.

Cheers,
Steve K7LXC

The
W8JI close-space receiver tests would seem to indicate good performance.

Oops - wrong reflector. There are Yaesu reflectors out there that are more
appropriate for this discussion.

OTOH thoughtful posts about tower and HF antenna installations are
always welcome.

This was presented earlier this year at the Dayton Hamvention Antenna forum.

rotated by a PST71 since late 2003.

Other than getting into the Guinness Book of World Records, one has to
wonder why anyone would bother with such a project. It's the old story
of the more gain you have, the narrower the beamwidth. This guy is
probably going to miss more DX than he hears.

But it's an interesting story, no doubt about that.

I came across some unused rotor cable in my pile of cable. It is Berk-Tek
6308 rotor cable. I can't find anything about it with a google search.
It has 8 wires - 6 of one size and 2 of another size. Does anyone have any
info on this cable and know what size are these wires?
Tnx
