Robert: I would think that heating the elements would not be a good idea. The melting point of aluminum is 1220 F and I think that you would deform the element and weaken it if you get it hot enough to bend it. I have successfully used a steel rod forced into the element. If you can find a rod near enough to the id of the element, you can come up with a decent job. Just my 2c worth. . . .
