Keeping good contact and the skin effect seem to be the biggest RF
concerns for adjustable antennas, along with the resistance of the
material in the skin effect region.
It seems that you could support an extremely thin metallic shell or
ribbon with a non-conductor and achieve the results of a thicker
conductor.
Is exposed conductive surface area all that matters, along with
continous contact?
For example, a partly extended telescopic antenna would have part of one
or more tubes making contact part way into the lower tube. I assume
that this is doing more harm than good because the RF must
??backtrack?? into the lower tube to get to the partly extended
element?
Trying to better imagine what is going on may result in better ways to
make it work.
