I have heard this before.  I have never had crushed coax either by cable
ties or tape.  Perhaps quality or the type of coax used comes into play.  I
have never used RG8, only RG213 (various brands), LMR400 and Belden 9913F7.

This works, but be careful.  If you place too many layers of tape, that are
stretched too tightly, they will have a tendency to crush foam coax over
time as the tape tries to return to its original length.
