Ken, Why does it need a gap in it. It is an inductor and it has a resonant frequency Use the coil with the frequency range of the antenna ( 20 m) and tune to find the dip. You will more than likely find more than 1. Find the deepest one. Best coupling will be in parallel to the element not at right angles. This is something I have wanted to do before, but have not come up with a method to couple the meter to an element that does not have a gap in the middle. Could someone please tell me a method to couple a GDO to a continuous element?
