Yes, they do need to be checked regularly and retightened if necessary.
A suggestion soemebody made on the alt.home.repair newsgroup (a
couple of long threads about grounding recently) was to protect the
connections with a capped PVC pipe that can be removed easily when the
connection needs to be checked. I believe the NEC does specify solid copper wire. Alan AB2OS On 03/13/04 10:36 am N2TK put fingers to keyboard and launched the following message into cyberspace: _______________________________________________When I lived in New Jersey I used those bronze ground rod clamps on all my ground rods. The tops of the ground rods were buried about 6". When I was getting ready to move, I pulled up all the coax and ground wires. I was surprised to find that those bronze clamps were loose on every ground rod after 8 years. Maybe you need to retighten them every so often? That is why for every connection to the ground rods I now use Cadweld one-shots. Also recommend you use solid copper wire over stranded wire. Only got about 8 years of use out of the stranded copper wire here in New York State. See: http://www.mscomputer.com for "Self Supporting Towers", "Wireless Weather Stations", and lot's more.
