Recently I got to operate at a station that had 2 tribanders - a Force12 and
an A3S. They are at similar heights and typically work in a similar fashion
with the edge to the Force 12. This time the A3S was significantly lower in
signal strength, both receive and transmit. Tried swapping feedlines. That
didn't help. Recently the trap caps were taped with Scotch 33. ScotchCote
was brushed on the tape to keep the tape from unwinding. It was liberally
used on the tape which covered the trap caps and the adjoining aluminum.
Took off the tape. Thank goodness the ScotchCote was on top of the tape.
Retaped the cracked trap caps with Scotch 33. The antenna once again
performs like it used to. Not sure what the ScotchCote did, but it seemed to
have a severe negative impact on the performance of the A3S.
