Thanks for all the replys and helpful information. Happily, I have 7
zig-zags, so I have 25G and I got a great deal even if a little cold
galvanizing paint is needed. Sounds like the top section could use replacing
for something which accepts 2" OD mast, but I figure 1 7/8" will do with the
bushing punched out of the top section I have.
Does the mast really need to be something super duper like chrome moly
galvanized this and that I have seen here and there? Wouldn't some
galvanized pipe (like plumbing, thick wall) work fine for just one antenna
(ATB-34)? Wondering about that.
Will have to buy a rotor plate (or make one). How far down would be
recommended mounting? (this would determine the mast length to some extent)
Also, is a thrust bearing a must have for an antenna this size and an HD-73
rotor? If so, does that go on a second plate above the rotor plate, but
below the top section mast tube? Wondering about how to locate this all, I
could ness up if left to my own judgement!
