Well, nothing I can add will top W7EW's Tip #4 (Go the the bathroom BEFORE you
go up the tower), but here's a couple of small ones for us older folks who
don't take kindly to having to climb more than once or twice a day.
Tip #1. In your toolbox or on the wall of your garage or other staging area
for tower work, keep some 3 x 5 file cards or a sheet of paper with listings BY
TASK of the tools you need for each kind of work at the top of the tower. For
instance, I carry up totally different sizes of open end wrenches and sockets
for my socket wrench depending on whether I'm adding tower sections or
installing a Yagi or rotor.
Tip #2. Take up some extra hardware in your hardware pouch....just in case you
drop a washer or hex nut. Also, take up redundant tools; socket wrenches AND
open end wrenches of the same size AND a crescent wrench. For the crescent
wrench, either metric or English is OK.
