A local race-car builder, who made a sidemount for me a couple of years ago, used a scrap block of high density polyethylene for the top bearing of the sidemount. The stuff has a faintly soapy feel, but is quite hard -- like a plastic cutting board. In two years there is no visible UV deterioration, but it could be tape clad if you wanted to. Very easy to machine, he said, and in two years there is no sign of wear. 73, Pete N4ZR |
