Sound like it got married :-)
Last frying incident happened at VE1ZZ, who had brownish female on his 
antenna switch box and it just shorted out (with stink). Jack doesn't use 
connectors much, to join two pieces of coax, he solders the center conductors 
and uses hose clamps around the shields. Weather proofing is soda bottle with 
cut off neck placed over the junction. Never fails :-)
It sounds like it is worthwhile to test the batch of connectors before 
serious use if origin not known especially when planning to use for over 200W.
